03 IN FOCUS

Our Gurukul The art of sadhana.

At our Gurukul, music is lived as a daily discipline—not merely learned as a performance. Rooted in the Guru–Shishya tradition, students grow through attentive listening, dedicated practice and close guidance from their teachers.

The Vidyalaya nurtures Indian classical music with patience and continuity, creating a space where musical knowledge, values and lineage can pass naturally from one generation to the next.

04 THE MAESTRO

Sangeetacharya Pt. D.V. Kanebuva

A revered vocalist of the Agra–Gwalior Gharana, Sangeetacharya Pt. D.V. Kanebuva dedicated his life to Indian classical music and to carrying its tradition beyond the concert stage.

He believed that a raag must retain its authentic form while still allowing every disciple to discover an individual and aesthetically meaningful expression. Through rigorous taleem, attentive guidance and an insistence on the finer details of performance, he nurtured generations of musicians.

His philosophy was rooted in taking music to smaller towns and reconnecting it with society. The Foundation continues his vision by preserving musical knowledge, encouraging young artists and keeping the Guru–Shishya tradition alive.

Kanebuva placed equal importance on the authentic presentation of a raag and the aesthetic thought behind it. He encouraged disciples to develop their own musical personalities within the discipline of the raag, while paying close attention to expression, clarity and the subtle details that give a performance life.

TEACHING LEGACY

His disciples include Pt. Narendra Kanekar, Pt. Raghubua Kale, Pt. Balasaheb Tikekar, Pt. Sharad Jambhekar, Dr. Mangala Apte, Vidushi Mangala Joshi, Pt. Hrishikesh Bodas, Vidushi Varsha Bhave, Vidushi Sukhada Kane, Vidushi Manjutai Modak, Girish Kulkarni and Vidushi Manjusha Patil.

HONOURS & RECOGNITION

For his lifelong contribution as a vocalist and Guru, he received the FIE Foundation Award and the Daftari Puraskar, and was conferred the honorary title of Sangeetacharya by Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.

Sangeetacharya D.V. Kanebuva Pratishthan was founded in 2007 by Hindustani classical vocalist Vidushi Manjusha Patil in memory of her Guru. Through concerts, educational programmes and opportunities for young artists, his musical ideals continue to guide the Foundation.
